About the Event

Want to take it a step further than a project workshop? Get the 411 on basic glass fusing.

Our 3-week Fusing 411 class is a great way to wade in without going too deep. 3 evenings is not a big commitment but it is enough to learn a lot.

Fusing 411 is an introduction to basic fusing vocabulary and techniques. Discussions will include safety, glass types, importance of compatibility,  adding texture with kiln paper and how to prepare and use shallow molds. Learn about firing temperatures for fusing and slumping and the different segments of firing schedules. Students can choose from a selection and make several pieces including pendants, a small 4" trinket tray or candleholder and a 6" - 8" bowl or plate. At the end of the class students can expect to make between 3 and 6 pieces, depending on the speed at which each student works.

We will teach you ways to cut and shape glass using various hand tools and a glass grinder prior to firing. We will discuss how to understand a good design and how to construct your piece to get a desirable outcome.  You will also learn basic coldworking after your piece has fired.

3 sessions, 2 hours each, total of 6 hours.

Fee includes use of our tools and materials and one firing per week. We have pencils and paper for you to work on your designs but you are free to bring your own notebook if you prefer.

Class starts on time, please be prompt. Wear closed-toe shoes!
